Teaching assessment and evaluation

Starting in 2002, the Department of Physics initiated a valuation system for the educational work. In 2006, the effort was set on a new basis establishing the basic principles of the valuation process.

A specific questionnaire was developed, which is used as a diagnostic tool for the evaluation of the educational work, based on the international practice as well as on the experience gained by the Department from the evaluation process during the previous teaching years.

At the beginning of 2010 the Department of Physics questionnaire was used as a template for the creation of a single questionnaire by MODIP, so to be common to all Departments of the University of Ioannina.

Today the questionnaire includes questions aimed at:

  • the student-centered teaching and learning
  • the student and teacher communication
  • the assignments to students
  • the difficulty degree of the courses
  • the learning outcomes

Until the academic year 2018-2019, the questionnaire was distributed to the students by the Committee of the Evaluation of the Undergraduate Teaching of the Department in the classroom during the last fifteen minutes of a course. The questionnaires were completed by the students, collected and placed in a dossier that was sealed and handed over to the Chair of the Committee. The Chair handed over the sealed file for processing to MODIP. Then MODIP allowed the evaluation results to be presented to the Head of the Department or the Chair of the Committee, who then communicated the results individually to each teaching stuff separately.

Since the academic year 2019-2020, the assessment is done electronically.
