Admission Examinations

According to the provisions of law 3404/2005 as amended by Law 4218/2013 (Government Gazette 268/10-12-2013, Issue A’) and the provisions of Ministerial Decision F.1./192329/B3 (Government Gazette 3185/16-12-2013), the ranking of candidates for the undergraduate program of the Department of Physics is possible following examinations.

For the academic year 2023-24, the examined subjects and syllabus are as follows:

  1. MECHANICS:
    Motion in one dimension. Motion in a plane. Dynamics of a particle. Work and energy. Conservation of energy. Conservation of momentum. Collisions. Kinematics of rotation. Dynamics of rotation and conservation of angular momentum. Equilibrium of rigid bodies. Oscillations. Universal gravitation. Static and dynamic of fluids.
  2. DIFFERENTIAL AND INTEGRAL CALCULUS:
    Real functions of one variable. Limits and continuity. Derivative and differential. Applications of derivatives. Indefinite, definite, and general integrals. Applications of integrals. Sequences, series, power series, Taylor expansion. Functions of several variables. Partial derivative, total differential, and their applications in Physics. Differentiation of composite functions, Leibniz’s rule. Extrema and inflection points, Lagrange multipliers, applications.
  3. ELECTRICITY AND MAGNETISM:
    Electric charge and matter. Electric field and Gauss’s law. Electric potential. Capacitors and dielectrics. Electrical properties of matter. Current and resistance. Electromotive force and circuits. Magnetic field. Biot-Savart and Ampère-Faraday laws. Self-inductance. Magnetic properties of matter. Alternating current and RCL circuits. Maxwell’s equations and electromagnetic waves.

Applications and supporting documents are submitted to the Department’s Secretariat from November 1st to 15th of each year.

The supporting documents are:

  1. Application
  2. Copy of diploma or certificate of completion of studies. For graduates from abroad, a certificate of equivalence of their degree from the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (DOATAP) or from the authority responsible for recognizing the degree is also submitted.

The admission examinations will take place from December 1st to 20th according to the announced schedule.
